چکیده
Abstract. We present a detailed symmetry analysis of the degeneracy lifting due to higher order spin exchanges in the pyrochlore lattice in applied magnetic field. Under the assumption of the 4 sublattice ordering, the criteria for a stable half-magnetization plateau are deduced. The higher order exchange terms may originate from spin–lattice coupling, or can describe quantum and thermal fluctuations.

Monte Carlo study of half–magnetization plateau and magnetic phase diagram in pyrochlore antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a pyrochlore lattice under external magnetic field is studied by classical Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes bilinear and biquadratic interactions; the latter effectively describes the coupling to lattice distortions. The magnetization process shows a half–magnetization plateau at low temperatures, accompanied with strong suppression of the mag...
متن کاملClassical Spin Liquid Properties of a Fully Frustrated Two Dimensional Lattice
Thermodynamic quantities and correlation functions (CFs) of the classical antiferromagnet on the checkerboard lattice are studied for the exactly solvable infinite-component spin-vector model, D → ∞. In contrast to conventional two-dimensional magnets with continuous symmetry showing extended short-range order at distances smaller than the correlation length, r ∼ ξc ∝ exp(T /T ), correlations i...
متن کاملSinglet excitations in pyrochlore: a study of quantum frustration.
We apply the contractor renormalization (CORE) method to the spin half Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the frustrated checkerboard and pyrochlore lattices. Their ground states are spin-gapped singlets which break lattice symmetry. Their effective Hamiltonians describe fluctuations of orthogonal singlet pairs on tetrahedral blocks, at an emergent low energy scale. We discuss low temperature thermo...
متن کاملEffective Hamiltonian for the pyrochlore antiferromagnet: Semiclassical derivation and degeneracy
In the classical pyrochlore lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet, there is a macroscopic continuous groundstate degeneracy. We study the semiclassical limit of large spin length S, keeping only the lowest-order in 1 /S correction to the classical Hamiltonian. We perform a detailed analysis of the spin-wave modes, and using a real-space loop expansion, we produce an effective Hamiltonian, in which...
